How do I give feedback?

On a life course, you can find information about the link between two person records on the right-hand side by hovering over the line. In the blue box, you will find a feedback button. You must be logged in to give feedback, and you can only give feedback once per link.

How to do it

  1. Create a user account on link-lives.dk.
  2. Look at a life course. Do the details match? Click on each individual person record. Does it seem credible that they belong to the same person? Are there any records that stand out in the life course?
  3. Click on the link between two person records and select “Is the link reliable?”
  4. Select an answer and a justification
  5. When there are 5 responses to a link pointing in either a positive or negative direction, the option to provide further feedback on that link is closed.

On ‘My page’, you can see the number of life courses you have provided feedback on.

Link error or data entry error?

Please note that you are giving feedback on the link between two person records—not on any data entry errors in the individual record.

Data entry errors should be reported to the Danish National Archives for censuses and parish registers—and to the Copenhagen City Archives for burial records and Police Registration Cards. See how below:

  • For censuses and parish registers, inquiries regarding data entry errors can be sent to the Danish National Archives at crowd@rigsarkivet.dk. However, the errors will not be corrected immediately but stored for later use. We cannot say when the corrections will be reflected on this site.
  • If you find errors in burial records or Police Registration Cards, you can click through from the person record here on link-lives.dk to the same entry on the Copenhagen City Archives website kbharkiv.dk. There, you can report the error online, after which volunteers will correct it as soon as possible. We cannot say when the corrections will be reflected on this site.

Feedback can improve the methods

By indicating whether you find a link reliable, you can help improve the computer-based methods. However, for the feedback to be useful, it is important that you use the feedback function on the webpage that displays the life course. Only in this way does your feedback become data—called training data—that can be used to improve the systems. By giving feedback, you are therefore creating experimental data that is used to improve training data.

After you have expressed your opinion about a link, you can see whether others have also provided feedback and whether they agree with you. The feedback is collected and will eventually be used to train the computer programs that create links. Your feedback does not change search results immediately.
